Highland Road Viaduct

The old alpine road slipped a little more every winter. Our viaduct lifts the highway clear of the failure plane on 14 piers socketed into bedrock — and because spans were launched from one abutment, not a single crane touched the fragile slope below.

Each 60-metre steel-composite span was assembled behind the abutment and winched forward over PTFE slide bearings. Survey prisms on every pier confirmed movements under 3 millimetres through all four seasons of the build.
